From the Info i have learned thus far. depending on the exact contract you have signed, you could be writing for a company for a weekly check and not own the song (Songs written become property of the company in work for hire, much like desgning software and the software company owns whatever work you creat as part of your job, or you could also, be writing for a publishing company and keep your writer’s share and recieve a “draw” or advance from your future “writers” royalties, and the publisher keeps the Publishing+ plus any monies they payed to you in advance the (’Draw"): so it would be wise for a new songwriter who has a contract like this to take as small a draw they could financialy live on, and they could get a larger royalty if the song makes money later

DO the songs a staff songwriter writes belong to the songwriter, or as in work for hire” belong to the company”?
