I have been writing songs for years. Well what I thought were songs, which I am learning are now just lyrics. What does one do with lyrics, I have been reading and noticed that I would need music. I unfortunately have no musical talent besides the sounds in my head when I write. I started at 15 writing “raps”. Then it was putting down love songs from getting emotionally trashed when i was a teenager. Since then I always come up with lyrics and I have been told I am very witty which i think inturn helps my writing. Any help or advice would be great. My stuff could be garbage, but I love doing it, so i did not know if I could do anything with it.

Hey Chad,

Welcome to SW101, there are many here willing to help.  As you enjoy being a lyricist, why not post one of your lyrics in the Lyrics Library for all to see, if you would like to collaborate with another lyricist, or composer, post a request in the Collaborate section of the forum.  Look forward to seeing more of you, good luck.

hey chad there are alot of people here who would be willing to collaborate but if u want u could learn to play an instrument guitar or piano which would help u in your songwriting, alot of songwriters can play an instrument but you dont have to but a knowledge of it can help you when writing.

Thanks for the responses, I have had 4 guitars in 4 attempts to learn and I can not get past 3 chords. I have paid a professional to teach me and I learned 3 chords, haha. I will work on getting some of my stuff on here. Thanks again

Hey Chad,

lol, yeh I remember those days, bloody finger tips and all, lest not forget though, some of the iconic songs of the 60’s, ( which I remember fondly ), were three chord songs, Gloria, Little Brown Jug, ect.
