I have no recording supplies and I’m trying to start recording from home, with decent sounding records for the minimal price. How can I achieve this?

www.musiciansfriend.com maybe?
www.justplainfolks.org may have a thread where folks sell things.

Whats good Jamal,
I would definetly check out the sites that Gary recommend. I also suggest maybe checking out guitarcenter online or if there is guitarcenter store located in your area and look for a home studio bundle package. Or you can just google “home recording studio bundle pack” and see what online music stores have bundle deals. Since home studios are in such high demand, a lot of stores offer bundle deals where you can get all the equipment you need to have a basic home studio for one low flat price, anywhere from $100-$700+ depending on the equipment in the bundle. Also check out ebay or craigslist for people selling their studio equipment. Since times are a little hard right now there are plenty of people selling their recording equipment for low prices to get extra cash. Hope this helps a little. Good Luck.

You gotta think outside the box. First thing’s first...find somebody with a full studio full of gear, then introduce him to cocaine for free. Get that sucker hooked, then sell it cheap at first, and then start jackin’ your prices. Pretty soon you’ll be able to trade recording equipment for a little bit of nothin. Just kidding! That stuff ain’t EVER cheap.

Try Kristal Audio Engine - a free download. You’ll still need a USB interface (like a mic preamp) and decent mic. Or Audiocity. For Macs I believe there’s Garageband.

PS - I started with Kristal, a Shure SM57 & a M-Audio Fasttrack preamp with USB interface. Cost me about $200. Later I added Tracktion, which is a low cost DAW (I think the download version is $100)… and I still use Tracktion today, for all my film/tv tracks.

B & H has a used section for audio recording equipment. Check it out here… B&H Photo Video
It’s all inspected and ready for resale. Some of it is also just things that were on the floor that they couldn’t consider “new” but it hasn’t actually been sold to anyone.

You should be able to buy a Roland VS2480 CDR with an 80 gig hard drive (full blown 24 track studio with 368 virtual tracks) for $1500.00 or so. Mikes, headphones, cables, mic stands...total can come in under $2000.00 on ebay or Craigslist. You can’t find a better studio (portable 24 track digital) for the money! Do it. Quick, if you can.

Are the machines you suggest, good enough quality to market?
